Calypso

Formed by casting glass layers, Calypso captures the sensation of water’s currents suspended in time. Transparent and semi-opaque strata weave upward like the swell of a tide, recalling the sea’s movement and the mysteries it conceals.
Grinding revealed the external, natural shapes born during formation; sandblasting softened planes to a velvety matte; and selective polishing restored crystalline clarity to chosen edges. This interplay of surfaces invites the eye to travel between luminous transparency and soft reflection, finding new details with every glance.

By day, sunlight penetrates its depths and glances off its polished planes, creating a delicate equilibrium between transmitted and reflected light. By night, its inner illumination reveals hidden textures, sending a cool glow outward—a luminous presence in dialogue with the ocean and skyline beyond.

The name Calypso, drawn from Greek mythology, belongs to the sea nymph who kept Odysseus in her hidden island’s embrace. Like its namesake, the sculpture holds light within itself, revealing its secrets slowly to those who linger.
